Building Trust & Credibility–the Basics

Today, I’m going to talk about standard credibility builders. By standard, I mean those very minimal things that potential clients look for. If these things are not in place, you run the risk of looking less than professional.

Your Website

It is essential that you have a website. But there are different levels of websites. You do not want to use a free hosting service like Vistaprint or Yahoo. These give you limited control over your site, and makes your site look like what it is: a free site. Also, these sites give you a URL such as mycompany.yahoo.com. These days, it is very important to have a URL with your own company name or your name .com.  For as little as $10, you can have a .com domain name. In a later post, I will talk about the web strategy. There I will talk about what is the minimum information that MUST be on every page of your site.

Your email Address

The same thing applies to your email. It is essential that your address is something like MyName@MyCompany.com rather than MyName@yahoo.com or gmail.com.

Your Business Card

Your business card should be professionally designed and printed. Do not print your cards yourself on micro-perforated stock. Do not get free business cards from Vistaprint that have “get your free business cards from Vistaprint” imprinted on the back. I  do have my cards printed at Vistaprint. But I always buy the premium cards and pay extra for 110# card stock. I was a graphic artist for 27 years before becoming a massage therapist, so I designed my own cards. I simply send a PDF file to Vistaprint taking advantage of their latest sale, and I get my professional cards very economically. I would be more than happy to help you with this also.

Testimonials

The most valuable thing you can get from your client is a testimonial. Sometimes it is like pulling teeth to get them to write something. I’ve waited months in some cases. But they are as good as gold. The testimonial page on my website www.wellandfit.com is as good as gold. Not builds credibility faster than reading what others have to say about you. If you haven’t started collecting testimonials yet, start immediately. If you need help with this, contact me and I’ll give you some pointers.

Credentials

There is not much for me to say here that is not obvious. You have gone to school, and have attended many workshops and seminars after massage school. Let your potential clients know what you know. This is why your website is so crucial. It lets them know about you before you have met.

You want your practice to grow. Your website, email address, business card, testimonials and credentials are all going to be scrutinized by your prospective clients. It does not take much effort or expense to present a polished and professional image.
